About Timothy and Bernadette Marquez

Timothy and Bernadette Marquez donated 2.5 million shares of Venoco stock, worth an estimated $42.5 million, to establish the TBM Foundation. They also gave the same amount of stock to the Denver Foundation to use as a challenge grant in establishing the Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF). DSF's mission is to provide college tuition on a needs basis for all Denver Public High School graduates.

Venoco is an independent oil and gas company headquartered in Denver, Colorado. The company was ranked as the 195th fastest growing private company in the U.S. by INC Magazine and has also been named Business of the Year in three different communities in which the company operates. In 2006, Venoco was named as the Best Corporate Citizen by Oil & Gas Investor magazine. Venoco has grown from a modest start-up to a company with a total enterprise value of more than $1.8B. Tim and Bernie have three children who are also deeply committed to giving back to the community. The TBM Foundation changes lives by improving educational opportunities, increasing access to, and options for, health care and facilitating change in human services.

Bernadette Marquez

Bernadette (Bernie) Marquez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Michigan State University and worked for many years as a nurse, most recently at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center in Denver.

A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Bernie has been a director on numerous nonprofit boards and has participated in several committees for nonprofit organizations in Denver, Colorado and Santa Barbara, California. Currently she is a co-founder of the TBM Foundation, and serves on the Colorado State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education.

Timothy Marquez

Timothy Marquez is the founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board for Venoco, Inc., a Denver-based public energy company with a focus on producing property acquisitions in Texas and Washington. Marquez founded Venoco in 1992.

Marquez attended Denver public schools. The third of six children, Marquez is the son of two public school teachers. A hard worker by nature, he worked his way through college at the Colorado School of Mines by taking jobs at several local factories. He has won numerous business and philanthropic awards and has served on several nonprofit boards in Denver and Santa Barbara.
